Today's trip to Alamo Springs Grocery and Cafe was everything you could want in a gyro trip - good friends and family, dozens of people mingling around the gyros with all sorts of questions, and of course, good food in one of those little out-of-the way Texas communities that beckons back to simpler times. See the pictures posted under Day 1.

The fight over to Fredericksburg was very nice. As we turned out to the west from Taylor we were thinking that rain might be in our immediate future. A few miles on, we passed over I 35 and the ceiling dissapated and we were in sunshine the rest of the day. It was a bit cold, but we were all dressed for the wintery weather. Like Robert said,, waves of people greeted us at Gillespie, including 2 1/2 year old Aiden who enjoyed being photographed in the front cockpit of the red M16. His grandpa took lots of photos. We made our way by cab, 20 mins each way, to Alamo Springs. Thanks to Kathy, Robert and Dayton for paying those fares which ate up the $100 hamburger budget on their own. The food was great and we even got to explore an abandoned railroad tunnel under the restaurant. Another Texas bat lair. More pilots and aviation lovers saw us off as we left for Taylor. We flew as a flight of two gyroplanes each way. Robert was the flight leader and did a great job keeping us safe. Sadly, we did not get to go out to Enchanted Rock on the flight home. We literally spent over an hour at Gillespie speaking with spectators. We ran low on time due to those enjoyable delays...Kathy had to be back for maw maw duties and Dayton had student flights at Taylor before nightfall. My flight ended with enthusiastic greetings from Curtiss and Molly who needed a good walk... and some relief. Let's go again next week!!!
