Trip Overview

Taylor TX to Mountain Home AR to Memphis TN to Natchez MS

August 13, 2015 — August 17, 2015

This trip combines the MOUNTAIN HOME and MEMPHIS trips that we missed earlier in the summer due to schedule conflicts.  This should be a great trip to wind up the summer.

Wow! Perfect weather, good flying, and great company. Day one was perfect, with exception that the keys to our rental car were locked in the closed FBO. But, the Uber trip to downtown LRK was more entertaining than a front row in Vegas. We getting some good PIX. Will post soon. Onward to Mountain Home and Memphis today.

Day 2 started with a morning walk around downtown Little Rock. Check out Dayton's jump across the fountain in front of the Marriott. We took off from North Little Rock Airport to some of the most beautiful country I've ever seen in N/W Arkansas. We arrived at Gaston's River Resort at about 2:30 for lunch in the Riverside Restaurant - quite a treat. We watched the Mountains turn to flat Delta on our last leg to Memphis. We managed to get to the Pyramid Bass Pro Shop just in time for a cold beer and a night shot of the Mississippi River Bridge. More to come tomorrow!

I want to report these images to the admistrator.. that much fun must be wrong! We have to sign that SPECIAL boy up for the OLYMPICS. Is that what they mean by comic relief? I am sure yout-in trouble for that. OK, enough of my jealousy. Where is that field you landed in? Part of Gastons or just a fun looking spot to set down? Thanks for sharing the good times!

How can you go wrong with breakfast at a place called The BluePlate Cafe and server named RubyAnne? We decided to deviate a bit from our flight plan and stop in Hattiesburg MS for lunch with Chamberlan, then on to Natchez. Should be departing MEMPHIS at about 11:00.

Day 3 was eventful. We got vectored all around Memphis by controllers who were overloaded with FEDX planes. Then, our fuel stop in Kosciusko Miss only accepted cash or checks for fuel and no one was on site to take payment. Like stepping back to the Stone Age. Thunderstorms caught us about 30 miles out of Hattiesburg, but successfully flew around. Saw lots of chicken houses and pine trees. Made a few PIX of old Hattiesburg and USM. Highlight was visiting with son, Chamberlan. Caught a shot of former NFL star's compound on flight to Natchez. Ended the day at Rolling River Bistro. Enjoy the Pix.

This trip is packed with flying fun, a few challenges and lots of great sights. Crossroads, dancing fountains, good food... I would think you were in NYC, Vegas, Paris and other far flung lands. Looking forward to the stories.

Touched down at T74 in Taylor at about 4:55 PM. This was one of those trips where every stop had something or someone who made the trip more fun. We met a lot of nice people, ate a lot of good food, and saw sights that are hard to describe unless you're there. Thanks to everyone who followed along and especially to those who took time to post comments. Here are the PIX from Day 4 that began in Natchez. See you on the next trip!
